ST-155, a new antihypertensive agent, was tried in ten cases of essential hypertension and four cases of renal hypertension. The-treatment was started with 225 mcg, of ST-155 daily in three divided doses after each meal, and the dosage was gradually increased every two days up to 675 mcg depending on the response of the blood pressure. The duration of observation with this drug varied` from four to seventy days, the average being eighteen days In all cases, except one in which the drug was given only four days, the blood pressure responded favorably, and no noticeable changes in the functions of the liver and, the kidney were noted as determine by blood urea nitrogen, serum bilirubin, and Pikaline phosphatase levels. The cardinal unpleasant subjective symptoms that appeared¢¥ in some cases¢¥ during; the medication were dryness in the mouth and/or behind the. sternum and fatigue.
